Spider Candy Keeper

When these spiders are complete, ask your party guests to fill them up at home with some of their own trick-or-treating goodies to give to a neighbor or classmate who was not able to go out on Halloween night!

Supplies:

  • 9-inch paper plates
  • black pipe cleaners
  • Green yarn
  • Black acrylic paint
  • White, green and orange construction paper
  • Glue
  • Hole punch

Directions:

  1. Fold paper plates in half and cut plate along the folded crease
  2. Flip both halves over so the rounded side of the plate is up and paint them black.
  3. While plate is drying, cut out white ovals to use for eyes and green for a squiggly smile.
  4. Cut 4 black pipe cleaners in half and bend each one at ¼ inch from bottom to form legs.
  5. Once the plates have dried, line both curved halves of the plate with glue (the unpainted side). Be sure not to glue the cut side of the plate as this will make your “pocket” opening.
  6. Place the pipe cleaners along each side with the tip in the glue of one of the plates.
  7. Press the other plate half on top and allow to dry.
  8. Glue the ovals and smile onto the front of your spider using a bit of black paint to finish the eyes.
  9. Using the hole punch, create a hole on each side of the pocket opening.
  10. Cut green yarn into 24 inch sections.
  11. Thread yarn through each hole and tie a knot to secure.
  12. Fill spider with treats!
