You’re A Shining Star!

Creating this easy craft will give your party guests a unique way to recognize and reward kindness in their own families.

Supplies:

• 12 x 18 inch poster boards (any color)
• Yellow construction paper
• Markers
• Clear contact paper sheets
• Scissors

Directions:

1. Distribute one poster board and a few sheets of yellow construction paper to each guest.
2. At the top center of each poster board have your guests write the name of their family in big letters (i.e. The Anderson Family) and at the bottom center have them write “Kindness Counts!”
3. Then have everyone cut out one large 4-inch star and several smaller stars out of the yellow construction paper.
4. On the large yellow star, have everyone write “You’re a Shining Star!” and decorate the star as they wish.
5. On the smaller stars, ask everyone to think about words or actions that show kindness and write these ideas in the stars – this activity should spark some interesting conversation.
6. Allow everyone to get creative and add other items to decorate their placemat (glitter, stickers, magazine clippings, photos, etc.)
7. Cover each placemat with clear contact paper on both sides.
8. Have each guest take their placemat home with these directions: Pay close attention to siblings and parents and watch for kind actions and listen for kind words. Try to catch kindness happening in your home everyday!
9. At the dinner table each night, award someone with the kindness star by putting the placemat under their plate and point out what that person did to earn it!
